Pikes Brewery

Let's meet each other

Two brewers with a true passion for beer and creating something special

Brad Nolen – Head Brewer

Brad-Nolen-003Growing up in Mildura there wasn’t a lot of choice when it came to beer selection. It was by chance that Brad met Nicholas Cleave (ex Rifle Brigade and Horizon breweries) who then introduced Brad to the world of brewing via his 200L fully operational brewery in his back shed.

At the age of 18, Brad scored a job behind the bar of the newly opened Mildura Theatre Brewery, but it didn’t take long before he was out the back in the brewery helping Stephen Nelsen one or two days a week kegging, cleaning and asking a lot of questions.

Over three years Brad learned all aspects of the brewing process, filtration, packaging and of course cleaning, before being able to take control of the brew house. Brad also studied via correspondence at the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London.

In 2010, Brad packed his bags and moved to Western Australia to work at Gage Roads Brewing Co. to not only hone his skills and get experience in a big brewery as a team leader, but to gain experience in laboratory housekeeping and various styles of beer through Gage Roads contact brewing.

In 2014 Brad was offered the Head Brewers position by Pikes Brewing Company, so once again he packed his bags and moved cross country to the beautiful Clare Valley.

The culmination of all this is the current Pikes beer range.

Alister Pike – Assistant Brewer

Alister-Pike-003After spending around 10 years living and working in Adelaide, Alister jumped at the opportunity to move back home to the Clare Valley and to join the family business in September 2014. Working in wine and beer stores for the majority of those 10 years, Alister picked up a keen interest in all things craft beer, and soon his fascination with the amber liquid developed into the desire to develop his skills with home brewing and further study in brewing. A short stint with Good George Brewing in New Zealand  in 2012 helped solidify the new direction that he wanted to take.

Alister is now being trained in the ‘Art of Brewing’ by our Head Brewer, Brad Nolen, along with taking care of our local and interstate wholesale customers, social media, and as a general all-round Pikes Beer Ambassador!

Being a 6th generation descendant of H. Pike & Co’s founder, Henry Pike, Alister has a strong interest in his family’s history and is always keen to tell some of the old stories, which have been passed down.
